At some time in our lives we had all questioned why we didn’t just move
Reference: “Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” Exodus 33:15 NIV
Explore: I was recently talking to a group of ladies in their thirties. As we all live down in the south of Australia we were commenting on how the weather had turned cold as we head towards winter.
We all reminisced about holidays in the sun up north. At some time in our lives we had all questioned why we didn’t just move and live up in the north of Australia so we could have sun all year round.
Each one of us in turn then confessed that we felt we couldn’t leave family. We all wanted to stay close to our parents and siblings.
At the independent age of thirty, we all had careers and our own families, and yet we desired the nearness of our extended family.
Application: When God and Moses were talking one day, God instructed Moses to move on with the people of Israel. But Moses didn’t want to leave God, as He had been so present to him in their current place.
He would only leave if God went with them. He was as attached to God as the ladies and I were attached to our families.
While we are often encouraged to be independent and to support ourselves, when it comes to God we would do well to have the same attitude as Moses: if You don’t go with me then I’m not leaving!
We are fortunate enough today, thanks to God generously giving us His Spirit, we can go anywhere and still connect with God. He is not bound to one place.
But let us not consider moving anywhere without Him. Wherever we move and whatever decisions we make, let’s consider where God would have us and desire to be as close to Him as we possibly can.
Prayer: Lord, draw near to us. Make Your presence known. May we dwell with You in all we do. Amen.
Where can you connect with God the most?
